Learning outcomes:
The three-semester English language course consists of the three modules English I, II and III, with each module providing two contact hours per week. In view of the heterogeneity of the student intake with respect to both language proficiency and motivation, the main goal of the course is to refresh and, more importantly, extend students’ existing English language skills in subject areas and situations that are of relevance in their later careers. During self-directed study periods, students use integrated multimedia-assisted teaching resources to train the four basic language skills (listening comprehension, reading comprehension, oral and written expression) including repetition of fundamental areas of English grammar and basic vocabulary. After completing the third module, student proficiency in vocational English should have progressed from level B1 (Threshold), corresponding to the language skills of those who have attained a German intermediate school leaving certificate (mittlerer Bildungsabschluss / Realschulabschluss), to level B2 (Vantage) of the Common European Framework.
