Learning outcomes:
Information about the University of Applied Sciences (HTW) and on studying for a degree there. Introduction to and practice in academic study and work techniques and methods of self organization. Introduction to information gathering, learning methods and presentation techniques. Guidance on possible specialist areas of study and their content. Overview of employment opportunities, job requirements, etc.

Module content:
Encouraging course participants to get to know one another and to form working groups. Structure of degree course; specialist courses and advanced topics; support services available; paradigm change: from school student to university student; self organization strategies; personal time management; personal goals; conflicting objectives. Team work in small groups: Gathering information; preparing and holding a short technical presentation. To assist student orientation, representatives from both the academic and industrial sectors will give talks on careers and job openings for graduates in mechanical and process engineering.
