Die Präsenzzeit dieses Moduls umfasst bei 15 Semesterwochen 60 Veranstaltungsstunden (= 45 Zeitstunden). Der Gesamtumfang des Moduls beträgt bei 5 Creditpoints 150 Stunden (30 Std/ECTS). Daher stehen für die Vor- und Nachbereitung der Veranstaltung zusammen mit der Prüfungsvorbereitung 105 Stunden zur Verfügung.

Lernziele:
• Describe the unique role and services of commercial banks. • Compare and contrast the evolving roles and services of commercial banks over time. • Interpret financial statements and analyze the financial health of commercial banks. • Understand the various types of risk faced by banks and the models used to manage them: o Calculate the repricing and duration gap of a portfolio of bank assets and liabilities. o Estimate the value at risk (VaR) and the expected shortfall of a securities portfolio of using alternative measurement models. o Measure the probability of default (PD) of a debtor using different models and techniques. o Estimate the risk-adjusted return and risk-adjusted pricing of a credit exposure based on its VaR. o Assess a bank´s capital adequacy in accordance with prudential regulation. • Critically evaluate the assumptions, limitations, underlying logic, and technical aspects of the bank’s risk measurement models. • Compare the advantages and disadvantages of alternative models for measuring banks´ interest rate risk, liquidity risk, market risk, and credit risk. • Understand the rationale behind capital regulation in banks, its technical features, and its evolution since the financial crisis 2008-09. • Define the goals and scope of microprudential and macroprudential regulation. • Understand the sources of systemic risk, including interconnectedness, contagion, and procyclicality. • Explore the role of banks in financing sustainable projects and integrating ESG considerations into lending and investment portfolios
