Learning outcomes:
The target level is C1.
The goal is for students to be able to understand almost everything they read or hear without too much effort. They should be able to summarize information from various written and oral sources and reproduce argumentations and explanations in a coherent presentation. They should be able to express themselves spontaneously, fluently and precisely and also be able to make finer nuances of meaning clear in more complex situations.
After successfully completing this module, students will:
- have gained knowledge about technical language in the field of construction management
- be able to understand moderately difficult to difficult newspaper and magazine articles in the German-language press, as well as complex (radio) reports
- be able to understand oral discussions and specialist texts from the range of topics covered by the degree program
- be able to present topics related to their studies or topics from the current socio-political spectrum confidently in writing and orally
- be able to present themselves, their specialist knowledge and their CV in an appropriate written and oral form

Module content:
Reading comprehension (recognizing and processing different types of texts; understanding complex texts using reading strategies; expanding vocabulary; recognizing different styles and language levels; processing cloze texts); listening comprehension and speaking skills (students give presentations on current topics from their field of research and science; development of means and strategies of speech for different speaking occasions; listening texts from audio CDs and as a ´live´ presentation by the teacher (general and specialist language), oral communication of information; job interview simulations); written expression (written preparation of presentations; preparation of letters of application; writing comments on selected topics; communicating information orally; job interview simulations).
